Identify Your Passion to Monetize

Before diving into all the bells and whistles of entrepreneurship, you need to identify which passion you will monetize. 

It’s super important to note that not all passions should be monetized. To all of my fellow Multipassionates in the house, this is even more crucial for you. 

Personally, I have had great multiple six-figure success turning my passion of photography into a small business over the last decade. I’ve also heavily invested in my passion for coaching and small business to do the same. Over the years, I have also tested and dabbled in hand-made home goods, art prints, paintings, horse training and lessons, virtual assistance work, and more, all of which I ultimately decided not to fully pursue as a business. 

Why? Through testing, you figure out really quickly what you truly enjoy, how the pressure and gift of monetizing it affects your craft, and how it feels in your body to turn your passion and hobby into a real business. Not all passions are meant for this. 

When I tried monetizing my paintings, I realized almost immediately that painting was a version of deep self-care for me – it was my time to let go and just create, for me. Monetizing it didn’t feel the same. So, while I still sell some paintings here and there (mostly to friends and family), my passion for painting is kept solely as my own hobby. 

How to Decide Which Passion to Monetize

Identify Your Passions & Hobbies: Make a list of your passions and hobbies. Explore activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. What do you find yourself doing in your free time? What topics do you constantly research or discuss with others?

Identify Your Strengths & Skills: Make a list of your strengths and skills. Consider which of these may not come naturally to others or how these can benefit others. How might these be leveraged with your passions and hobbies to create an offer to monetize into a business.

Assess Desire & Need: Do some research to see how your passion and skills might intersect with consumer needs and desires – how might this help someone with a problem they have, would they pay for it, and how needed/desired is it? This sweet spot is where profitable businesses are born.

Test Your Idea: Before you go all-in on your business idea, test it out to make sure it works for you to monetize it.

It’s easy to think that you need to come up with a fancy business name, start all the social media profiles, design a logo and flashy branding, get the perfect website built, and have everything beautifully perfect in order to launch your business. 

Believe me, I definitely made this mistake when starting my coaching business… Thousands of dollars, 3 iterations, and almost 3 years later, I finally launched. It wasn’t pretty.

Here’s exactly what you need to do instead: 

Just start. 

No, seriously. 

The BEST and most profitable way to start a brand new business is to start immediately. Put a simple offer together, share about what you’re doing, and get your first client (paid or free). 

Yes, it will feel scary (hello imposter syndrome, my old friend…). 

Yes, it will be messy. 

And Yes, it will be your quickest way to success. 

Because once you’re in it and doing it, that’s when the real magic happens! 

You realize how good it feels – to do meaningful, fulfilling work you love and get paid to do it! To manage your own schedule on your terms to give yourself the freedom you desire. To feel the endless possibilities awaiting you as you start your business journey.

It’s time to make it official! Register your business, open your business account, and make your new business legit. 

Rewire Your Mindset

Starting your own business successfully is not just about logistics. Energetically, you need to regulate your nervous system and control the focus of your mindset in order to make the best decisions for your business and create the version of success you want. Your mindset and energy are a key piece to your success (or there lack of!). 

Build a Profitable Foundation

Setting your business up for success involves choosing a business model that fits your passion and skills, as well as generates money from an offering that your potential clients want to buy. 

Attract Your Dream Clients

While your intentions mean well by wanting to help anyone and everyone you can, that approach will make your new business invisible. It’s crucial to get super specific on WHO exactly your offer is perfect for, HOW it will help them that aligns with what they WANT, and WHAT is the next action they need to take to work with you. Your offer, branding, imagery, messaging, etc. should speak directly to them. 

Craft Irresistible Offers & Prices

The offer you tested, it’s time to refine it into the must-have solution to your ideal client’s problem. Dive deep into understanding, not only what your client wants, but what would help them actually move forward, make real progress, and achieve the solution they desire through your offer and expertise. Then, positioning your offer and price in relation to your competitors to help your offer stand out and be an easy yes! 

Make Your Marketing Magnetic

It’s actually spinning your wheel and getting nowhere to be on every social channel, creating loads of content, trying to get someone to buy your offer. Instead, your marketing should be super targeted and extra simple (especially as you are first getting started) so you can sign clients while doing less. 

Perfect Your Sales Process

The journey your potential client goes on from learning about your business and offer to the time they sign and buy with you should be as easy as possible for them – make it easy for them to say yes and buy. 

Similarly, the process YOU go through to market and sell your offers to potential clients should also be as easy as possible for you too! Just because someone else had wild success in the Instagram DMs, does not mean that strategy is for you if the thought of being on social media 4 hours a day makes you want to hurl or hide in a corner. Your strategy needs to fit and feel good to you – because when it does, you actually do it and, therefore, you get results! 

Make Your Income Strategy
